El día 9 de febrero de 2011, Eduard Punset fue nombrado Doctor Honoris Causa por la Universitat de les Illes Balears. La jornada empezó con la siembra de un Ginkgo Biloba como símbolo de eternidad, por el mismo Punset. Justo después, firmó el libro de Honor de la Universidad y dió una rueda de prensa. A continuación y justo antes de ser nombrado doctor honoris causa por la Universitat de les Illes Balears, firmó el primer CD que el grupo de indie-pop Los Punsetes sacó al mercado. Con esta acción aparentemente banal, se superponen diveras cuestiones referentes al mundo “fan”, a los celebrities y a todo lo que se mueve a su alrrededor. De esta manera se completababa un cíclo, en el que el grupo, fan de Eduard Punset (se pusieron este nombre en honor al divulgador científico), era reconocido simbólicamente por él mismo.
